The month of November is National Home Care and Hospice Month. It is a time to recognize the professionals-- nurses, aides, physicians, social workers, physical therapists, and others-- that are at the heart of this industry! In honor of National Home Care and Hospice Month, let’s break down what each has to offer.
What is Home Care?
The goal of home care is to provide services to keep individuals safe and comfortable within their own home. This may include providing daily living and personal care assistance to elderly patients such as grooming, meal preparation, light housekeeping, and companionship to name a few. The elderly population is not the only group that may benefit from home care services. Home (health) care services can also assist adults recovering from surgery or managing chronic illnesses.
What is Hospice care?
According to the Hospice Foundation of America, hospice is a form of specialized care that focuses on managing the symptoms and quality of life of an individual whose illness or condition is not likely to improve. Hospice care focuses on keeping a patient comfortable during their last stages, and ensuring that all of their wishes are met. Hospice services may include managing symptoms, controlling pain, and providing physical, emotional and spiritual support.
By the year 2025, there will be approximately 1 billion seniors worldwide, many of which will require some form of hospice or home care. If you would like to learn more about the services that Quality of Life Home Care & Hospice can provide you or a loved one, contact us today!
